TYPO3 Site Search: the Opensolr Search Extension

Your TYPO3 pages and documents in an Opensolr Index

Site search for TYPO3

The Opensolr Search extension connects your TYPO3 site to an Opensolr Index and runs everything from the TYPO3 backend: it fills the index with your pages and document files, gives your site a search page and adds answers, search by image and a chat bot. It works on TYPO3 13.4 and TYPO3 14, installed with Composer, and puts no indexing load on TYPO3.

01 · How it fills your index

Two tabs, two ways to fill it:

  • Data Crawler: the extension publishes a sitemap of your public pages in every site language, and Opensolr crawls your site from it. Data Crawler
  • Data Ingestion: the extension sends your pages to Opensolr itself, all of them at once, and, with Real-Time Sync, every page, content element or file the moment you save it. Data Ingestion

Document files of your public file storages go in too, PDFs page by page. Either way, every page gets what Opensolr adds to every document: meaning vectors, text read from pictures, language and more. What every page gets

02 · What your visitors get

  • A search page on your own site, with hybrid search, facets, autocomplete, "Did you mean?" suggestions, AI Hints, the AI Reader with a PDF download and search by image. Search page
  • Social and search meta tags and structured data on your pages. SEO
  • A chat bot on every page of your TYPO3 site: the Chat Bot tab of the extension opens the Chat Bot of your index, and one switch there shows it. The Chat Bot for TYPO3

03 · What you control

The tabs of the extension, under Site Management > Opensolr Search: Settings, Data Crawler, Data Ingestion, Facet Mapping, Search Page, Search Tuning, Analytics, Elevation, Filters and Chat Bot.

04 · Get started

  1. Install the extension: installation.
  2. On Settings, paste your Opensolr email and API key and click Save & Connect. When the site has no index yet, the extension creates one and installs the Opensolr schema on it. To use an index you already have, pick it under Use an existing index.
  3. Fill it from the Data Crawler or the Data Ingestion tab.

Save & Start Fresh creates a new index and deletes the one the site uses now: search stays empty until the new one is filled. Setup
