What the shared platform allows, and why the ceiling is there.
The number
Every shared server enforces a per IP rate limit starting at
150 requests per minute. Some servers run higher.
It is measured per visitor IP, not per account, so ordinary traffic to your search page
never comes close to it: one person searching hard is a handful of requests a minute.
It protects you too
Bot and attack traffic that hits your website's search box gets forwarded straight through
to your index. Without a ceiling, someone else's scraper is enough to take your own search
down. The limit absorbs that on our side before it reaches your Solr core, which is also
why we do not turn it off on request.
Why shared means shared
On shared infrastructure your index sits beside other people's. A single account allowed to
saturate a machine would slow down every index on it. The ceiling is what lets us keep shared
plans fast and cheap at the same time.
