Content Quality Boost - Rich Pages Rank Higher

Rich pages up, thin pages down

Content Quality Boost lifts pages with rich, real content and pushes thin pages down, such as pages that are mostly links and menus. It uses the content quality score Opensolr gives every page it reads from your site.

What each value does

The slider goes from Off (the default) to Maximum (1.00), in steps of 0.05.

  • Off: quality plays no part in the order.
  • 0.50: a very thin page keeps about half of its score, a rich page keeps nearly all of it.
  • 1.00: the quality score multiplies the score of every page, so a very thin page drops far down.

Pages without a quality score count as average. Nothing is removed from the results: the boost only changes their order, on every search, with or without AI.

Change it

  1. Open Search Tuning in the settings of your index.
  2. Drag the Content Quality Boost slider. The value shows on the right and is saved as you move.
  3. To switch it off again, click Reset next to the slider.

It helps most on a site that mixes long articles with short or empty pages.
