Your index can talk to your visitors.
Every Opensolr Index on a Web Crawler server comes with its own chat bot. It answers your visitors from your own pages, products and documents, with a link to everything it mentions, in their own language. Opensolr runs it: you paste one line on your site, or switch it on for your hosted search page.
- 01
Fill your index
Crawl your site with the Web Crawler, or send your own records with Data Ingestion.
- 02
Open Chat Bot
In the Control Panel of your index, right under WebCrawler.
- 03
Put it on your site
List your domains, save, paste the line. Or flip one switch for your hosted search page.
Answers from your site, not from the internet.
The chat searches your Opensolr Index the way a person would, reads what it finds and writes the answer from it. If your index does not have it, the chat says so instead of making it up.
Every source linked
Each page, product and PDF page the answer is built from is linked, so your visitors land on your content.
Their own language
Visitors ask in their language and get the answer in it, whatever the language of your pages.
Written as it comes
The answer appears word by word, and a line shows what the chat is doing before it starts writing.
Commands, at once
/search, /time, /rate, /vat, /vatcheck, /distance, /place, /postal, /ip, /language, /translate and /help, each with an example.
A conversation, kept
Follow-up questions keep the context. The conversation stays when the page reloads, until the visitor clicks New chat.
Rated by your visitors
Every answer can be rated good or bad, and you see the ratings and the links people opened in your stats.
One section in your Control Panel.
Open your index, then Chat Bot, right under WebCrawler. Everything is there, in seven tabs.
Embed code
The line to paste on your pages, the domains of your site it works on, and the switch that shows the chat on your hosted search page. Anywhere else, the same line shows nothing.
Assistant
Your own instructions: its tone, what to recommend, what to avoid. And the time zone of its "now".
Chat window
Title, the text of the chat button, greeting, placeholder, accent colour and your logo.
Limits
Characters per message, questions per conversation, and how many questions a visitor may ask in a time window.
Signed-in visitors
When your site has accounts, the chat can know who asked: your pages add the visitor's email and its signature to the embed line.
Stats
Messages, conversations, visitors, countries, answer and click rates, ratings, what people search for, what your index may be missing, the pages cited the most.
History
Every conversation of the last 30 days, with filters and a search. Open one to read it as your visitor did, delete what you do not want to keep.

| You need | Why |
|---|---|
| An index on a Web Crawler server | The Chat Bot comes with these indexes; their Control Panel has the WebCrawler tab. |
| A plan with AI | The chat writes its answers with the AI of your plan. Without it, the Chat Bot section tells you so. See the plans. |
| The Opensolr schema | The Web Crawler and Data Ingestion use it. An index with a schema of your own still opens the Chat Bot, with a warning that it may not answer well. |
Let your visitors talk to your index.
It is already there, in the Control Panel of every Web Crawler index. Fill your index, open Chat Bot, paste one line. No account yet? Create one.
