The Five Facet Widgets

Every facet in the sidebar is shown with a widget: the control your visitors use to filter. You pick it per field in Facet Filter Mapping. The list only offers the widgets that fit the field: List fits every field, the others need numbers, dates or category levels.

Category Shoes (128) Bags (64) Hats (21)

List (checkboxes)

For any field: categories, brands, colours, content types. Each value shows with how many results it has.

  • One click filters on a value; the × next to it removes the filter. Picking another value of the same facet replaces the first.
  • + Show all lists every value. Over eight values, a Filter... box also finds any value as the visitor types.
Price 25.00 180.00 Apply

Min/Max Slider

For number fields such as a price, a rating or a size. The slider goes from the lowest to the highest value found. Visitors drag the two handles or type the numbers, then click Apply. Clear removes the filter.

Video length 0:30 1:02:15 Apply

Duration

The same slider for whole numbers that count seconds, such as the length of a video. Visitors see hours, minutes and seconds (1:02:15) everywhere, also in the filter label above the results. Offered for whole-number fields whose name ends in _i or _l. Opensolr fills one for the videos it finds on your pages (Video details).

Date Today Last Week Last Month From To

Date Range Picker

For date fields, such as the date of a page. One click on Today, Last Week (the last 7 days) or Last Month (the last 30 days) filters at once. Or visitors pick any From and To dates and click Apply.

Category ‹ Garden Hand tools (40) › Power tools (25) ›

Hierarchical (drill-down)

For category paths, one level at a time. Visitors click a category to see the ones inside it, follow the path back with the link at the top, and go down up to six levels. Offered for text fields with a level number in their name, such as the breadcrumb levels Opensolr reads from your pages (Which fields can be facets). Choose the level the tree starts at; you can skip a first level that is the same on every page.

The same for every widget

  • Filters from different facets combine: a result must match all of them.
  • Each active filter shows above the results with an × to remove it, and Clear all removes them together.
  • A facet with no data for the current search is not shown. On a phone, the sidebar opens with a Filters button.
