Sorting Results
Results on the hosted search page come in order of Relevance: the pages that answer the search best come first. Visitors can also sort by any field you let them filter on, such as a price or a date.
What the visitor sees
- A sort list next to the results, starting with Relevance, followed by the label of each facet you enabled.
- A second list with DESC (highest or newest first) and ASC (lowest or oldest first).
- When a field is chosen, that field decides the order. Results with the same value stay in order of relevance.
- The choice stays in the address of the page, so a sorted search can be shared or bookmarked.
The sort list shows only when at least one facet is enabled and the facet sidebar is on; an embed with data-sidebar="off" has no sort list. Hierarchical facets are not offered as sort fields.
Offer sorting by price or by date
- Open Facet Filter Mapping (how).
- Turn on the field to sort by: the price field with a Min/Max Slider, or the date field with a Date Range Picker.
- Give it a clear label, such as Price or Date, and click Save Configuration.
The field now shows in the sidebar as a filter and in the sort list under the same label.
Sorting by date puts the newest page first even when it matches poorly. To move newer pages up while keeping good matches on top, visitors use the Fresh switch instead.
