The Click Analytics tab of Query Stats shows which results visitors click on your hosted search page. A search that many people make and few click on usually means the right page is missing or ranked too low.
What counts as a click
- A click on the title of a result.
- Each visitor once per search and result.
- At most 50 clicks per visitor per hour for one index.
What it shows
At the top: Total Clicks, Unique Documents (pairs of a search and a clicked result) and Queries With Clicks. Then three views:
- Top Clicked: the most clicked results, with Clicks, how many different searches led to them (Queries), their Avg Position in the results and Last Clicked.
- By Query (CTR): each search with its Clicks, Impressions (how many visitors made it), CTR (clicks as a share of impressions), Docs Clicked and Last Click.
- Low CTR: searches made by 3 or more visitors whose clicks stay below 30% of their impressions. These are the ones to look at first.
Use it
- Open Low CTR and take the searches with the most impressions.
- Run each search on your hosted search page and look at what comes first.
- Improve the order with Search Tuning, or pin the right page to that search with Query Elevation.
In By Query (CTR), tick searches and click Delete Selected to remove their clicks. A result clicked only once is dropped after about a year without another click.
