Chat Bot Commands - /search, /time, /rate, /translate and More

Twelve commands your visitors type for an answer at once

Chat Bot Commands

A message that starts with / is a command: the chat answers it at once, without the assistant. The same twelve commands work in all three ways of having the chat bot.

  • The Commands button, the question mark in the chat header, lists them, each with an example: click the example to put it in the message box.
  • Typing / in the message box lists them too.

The twelve commands

/search
Searches your site and lists the pages, products and PDF pages that match, each with its link.Example: /search robotic lawn mower
/time
The local date and time at a place, at coordinates or where an IP address is. With nothing after it: the visitor's own local time.Example: /time Tokyo
/rate
Today's exchange rate between two currencies (three-letter codes) and the amount converted. Add a date as YYYY-MM-DD for a past day.Example: /rate 100 EUR to RON
/vat
The standard and reduced VAT rates of one or more European countries or the United Kingdom (two-letter codes, separated by commas).Example: /vat RO, DE
/vatcheck
Whether an EU or UK VAT number is valid, with the name and address of the company it belongs to.Example: /vatcheck IE6388047V
/distance
The straight-line distance between two places, addresses or coordinates, in kilometres and miles.Example: /distance Paris to Berlin
/place
Finds a place or a street address, with its coordinates, region, country and a map link. Give coordinates (latitude, longitude) to learn what is there.Example: /place Santa Clara, California, USA
/postal
Postal codes and the street addresses that have them: a code, a code and a town, or a town and a country.Example: /postal 10115 Berlin
/ip
Where an IP address is: country, region, city, time zone and a map link. With nothing after it: the visitor's own approximate location.Example: /ip 8.8.8.8
/language
The language of a text and its sentiment: positive, negative or neutral (the sentiment is measured on English text).Example: /language Acest produs este excelent
/translate
Translates a text into another language: two language codes joined by a hyphen (en-es, from English into Spanish), or only the language to translate into. The longest text is the one you set on the Limits tab. The Commands list has a Table of language codes to search.Example: /translate en-es What is this?
/help
The list of commands.

Other names that work: /? and /commands for /help, /find and /geocode for /place, /currency and /exchange for /rate, /zip for /postal, /lang and /sentiment for /language.

What they use

  • /search is a search by meaning and /translate writes an answer: each uses an AI request of the monthly allowance, like a search or an answer anywhere else.
  • /language passes a text too short to recognize to the chat model, which uses one request; otherwise it is free, like the other eight lookups.
  • A command counts as a question for Questions per visitor on the Limits tab, never for Questions per conversation.

The assistant runs the same lookups by itself when a question needs them: what the chat bot can look up. How the allowance is counted: what site search uses from your plan.
