Regions
A region is where your Opensolr Index runs: a server location and a Solr version. You pick it once, when you create the index.
01 · What a region card shows
Solr > Add New Index lists one card per region you can use today. Each card shows:
- its name and the Solr version,
- the region and the city, with the country flag,
- Shared (servers shared with other customers) or Dedicated (servers only you use),
- on regions with site search: Web Crawler after Shared or Dedicated, the line AI Hybrid Vector Search at the bottom and an orange outline.
The Filters on the left narrow the list by Region, Version, Country, Type and Crawler.
02 · Which one to pick
- Close to your visitors and your servers: shorter distance, faster answers.
- The Solr version your software needs. A Drupal or WordPress module, or your own code, may need a given version.
- A region with site search for crawling, pushing data, hybrid search, the hosted search page and the chat bot: what your index needs.
03 · The list is live
The cards come straight from the servers that run today, so the Add New Index page is always the full, current list. The Solr versions on shared servers right now:
Current on Opensolr · dense vectors, hybrid search, AI features
Supported · no dense vectors, no hybrid search
End of life upstream · still orderable · hardware being retired
Regions with site search run Solr 9.00 to 10.00. With Solr 10.00: New York (US-EAST).
Solr versions below 8 are retired on 01/01/2027.
04 · A region of your own
The Request Yours! card asks for a dedicated environment in the region and Solr version you want. It opens the contact form.
05 · Moving to another region
An index stays in the region it was created in. To move, create an index in the new region with the same Solr version and copy your data into it: Replicate an index. Or send your data to the new index again.
06 · By API
API: Get Available Regions and API: Get Vector-Capable Regions.
