Search by meaning: Embed
When your index can search by meaning, every text field of the Data tab has an Embed checkbox. The text of the ticked fields becomes the meaning of the document, saved with it, so a search finds the document even when people describe it with other words.
01 · The box above the form
- A green check: your index can search by meaning. The box names the field that holds the meaning of each document.
- A warning sign: your index cannot search by meaning, and the form has no Embed checkboxes.
- Click the box to read what it means for your index; the i button explains Embed.
02 · Which fields to tick
- title, description and text are ticked from the start.
- Tick the fields that say what the document is about. Only text fields have the checkbox; numbers, dates and true or false fields do not.
- Together, the ticked fields need at least 50 characters.
03 · Ticking nothing
The document is added without its meaning: search finds it by its words only.
04 · Your plan
If your plan does not include search by meaning, the document is added without it and the tab says so.
05 · When your index cannot search by meaning
Open the box with the warning sign: it tells you what your index needs.
- If its server supports search by meaning, installing the Opensolr vector schema on the index adds it. This replaces the configuration of the index, so the documents already in it must be sent again.
- Otherwise, create a new index in one of the regions the box lists, and send your documents there.
