Sentiment Score of Every Page

How positive or negative each page reads, from -1 to +1

Sentiment

Every page and document in your Opensolr Index carries a tone score: how positive, how neutral and how negative it reads, plus one overall score from -1 (very negative) to +1 (very positive).

Use it to let visitors keep only the positive reviews, to find the complaints in a support archive, or to watch the tone of a news site.

What is measured

The title, the description and the start of the text, for crawled pages and pushed documents alike. The tone is measured for English text.

Four numbers are stored with each document:

FieldWhat it holds
sent_comThe overall score, from -1 to +1
sent_posThe positive share of the text
sent_neuThe neutral share
sent_negThe negative share

Turn it into a filter

  1. In the Control Panel, open your index and click WebCrawler.
  2. Click Settings, open Search Facet Filters and click Configure Facet Filters.
  3. In Facet Filter Mapping, search for sent_com, tick On and pick the widget Min/Max Slider.
  4. Give it a label visitors understand, like "Tone", and click Save Configuration.

Visitors then get a slider in the filter sidebar of the hosted search page. More on the widgets: Facet widgets.

Ask the chat bot

The chat bot command /language tells the language and the tone of any text you paste: positive, negative or neutral, with the overall score. See Chat bot commands.
