What Site Search Uses From Your Plan

Plan limits and the monthly AI allowance: what counts, what is free

Two things from your plan

Site search uses your plan in two ways: its limits, like any Opensolr Index, and its monthly AI allowance, for the features that understand meaning, read pictures and write answers.

01 · The limits of your plan

How many indexes you have, their disk space and bandwidth, how many pages a crawl reads and how big one page or file can be: all of it comes from your plan. Each plan, with its numbers: pricing. What your index uses now: the Dashboard of its Control Panel.

02 · The monthly AI allowance

  • Every plan includes 500 AI requests a month. The pricing page offers bigger allowances.
  • The requests count on the account that owns the index, whoever does the work: you, a team member, your site or the visitors of your chat bot.
  • The count starts again on the first day of every month.
  • See how much you used: Account › API Usage.

03 · What counts

Only work that really runs is counted. Work that fails is not, and neither is work whose result Opensolr already has: the same text, the same search, the same answer.

A document made searchable by meaning

One request for the meaning vector of each web page, record or PDF page you crawl or push.

A search by meaning

One request for the meaning of the search words, on your hosted search page, in the chat bot or through the API.

An answer

One request for each answer written: AI Hints, the summary of the AI Reader, a translation with /translate in the chat bot.

The chat bot

One request for each step of the assistant, usually two per question (one to choose its searches, one to write the answer), and one for each search by meaning it runs.

Pictures

Half a request each time a picture is read for its text, or described by what it shows. A picture with no text in it is read, then described: one request.

04 · What is free

  • Search by words, facets, sorting and Query Elevation.
  • The facts the chat bot looks up: local times, exchange rates, VAT rates and VAT numbers, distances, places, postal codes and IP locations.
  • Work that fails, and work whose result Opensolr already has.

05 · When the month's allowance is used

  • Crawls and pushes keep indexing your pages, searchable by their words, without new meaning vectors.
  • The hosted search page searches by words.
  • The other features that use AI wait for the first day of the next month, when the allowance starts again, or for a bigger allowance from the pricing page.
