The configuration files
A handful of files decide what your Opensolr Index stores and how it searches. You find them all in the Configuration tab of the index.
01 · The main files
| File | What it controls |
|---|---|
schema.xml | The fields of your documents, their types, and how text is analyzed (lowercasing, stemming, synonyms). You edit it first when your data changes. How to define new fields. |
solrconfig.xml | How the index runs: request handlers, caches, commits and replication. On a cluster master, saving it writes it to the replicas too. |
synonyms.txt | Words that mean the same, such as sofa and couch. |
stopwords.txt | Words left out of searches, such as the and of. |
protwords.txt | Words protected from stemming, such as brand names. |
elevate.xml | Solr's own file of results pinned for a query, in configurations that have it. The Query Elevation of the hosted search page keeps its rules in your Opensolr account, not in this file. |
The three word lists are explained, with their format, in Synonyms, stopwords and protwords.
02 · How the list is grouped
The file list of Edit Config File starts at Edit File... and groups the files as schema, search, solrconfig, stopwords, synonyms, protwords and others. Others holds the rest, such as dictionaries (.aff, .dic) and any file you created.
