Solr Admin Query Limits

What the query form accepts

Query limits

The query form only reads your index. It accepts almost every search parameter, with a few limits that keep each search quick and inside your own index.

Bigger values are lowered to the limit; they are not refused.

01 · Sizes

  • rows: at most 100 results per search.
  • start: at most 10,000. To go deeper, use cursorMark, which has an example in Examples.
  • timeAllowed: 15,000 ms unless you set it, at most 30,000.
  • At most 50 parameters, and at most 20 values for one parameter.
  • A value can be up to 4,000 characters; a vector query, up to 30,000.
  • The answer of Solr can be up to 2 MB. For a bigger one, lower rows or ask for fewer fields with fl.

02 · Not accepted

The form refuses anything that would leave your index, change it, or load other data. Running a query with one of these shows a message that names it:

  • Other indexes: shards, collection, distrib, joins with fromIndex, cross-collection joins, zkHost.
  • Changes: update, commit, optimize and similar parameters, and rebuilding spellcheck or suggest dictionaries.
  • Other handlers and formats: qt, wt, json; json.facet and json.nl are accepted.
  • Outside data: stream.*, the XML query parser, the [subquery] transformer and url= inside {!...}.

Macros such as ${name} are not expanded: expandMacros=false is always sent.
