Uploading from the browser

Pick files or drop them on the page: they go to your backup, into your index and onto every phone.

Photos, clips and PDFs on your computer can join your library without a phone. They go to your backup, into your index, and onto every phone of the account.

01 · Two ways
  • Upload, in the top bar, opens your computer's file picker; pick one file or many.
  • Drop files anywhere on the page. Drop to upload shows while you drag them over it.

Only photos, clips and PDFs are taken; anything else is refused. A file can be up to 4 GB.

02 · While it uploads
  • A panel lists every file with a bar and its state: Waiting, the percentage, Reading it, then Done, or Failed with the reason.
  • Two files go at a time. The × on the panel hides the list while files are still going, and closes the panel when they are done.
  • When the last one is done, the library reloads with the new items.
03 · Where they go
Photos

Into Pictures/Opensolr Web. They are read like a photo from the phone: what they show, the text in them, the date, camera and place from the file.

Clips

Into Movies/Opensolr Web, with their length, shown in the grid by a plain picture. Their content is not read.

PDFs

Into Documents/Opensolr Web, every page searchable on its own.

A name that is already taken in that folder gets a number, such as (1). The date of an uploaded file comes from the file itself when it has one, otherwise from when it was last changed on your computer.

04 · What you need

A Photos index, made by the phone app, and a backup backend, an S3 bucket or a WebDAV folder, set on the Backup screen. Without them, Upload says what is missing.
