What is written into your storage

One folder per index, your files inside it in their own folders, a small copy of each next to them, and a list per phone.

Everything the app writes sits in one folder named after your index, so it never mixes with anything else you keep there, and so two people can share one bucket without ever seeing each other's files.

01 · The folders
photos_…__dense/

The index's own folder, inside the folder or bucket you gave. Its name is your index's name, as shown on the Me screen.

o/

Your files, in the folders they have on the phone: o/DCIM/Camera/IMG_0001.jpg, o/Pictures/Screenshots/…, o/Download/contract.pdf. A photo as the original or as a 1080p copy, as you chose; a video or a PDF always as the original.

r/

A 720p JPEG per indexed file, named by the file's id in the index. For a photo it is the photo, for a video its first frame, for a PDF one picture per page. A new phone receives photos as these copies; videos and PDFs come back as their files.

manifest-<phone>.jsonl

One text file per phone that ever backed up: a line per file it sent, with the file's id, its path, its size, its checksum and when. A phone rewrites only its own list, so two phones never overwrite each other.

02 · What that gives you
  • Your files are plain files, in plain folders, with their own names. Open the bucket or the folder in any tool and there they are, with or without the app, forever.
  • The lists are plain text. If Opensolr disappeared tomorrow, a short script could rebuild your library from o/ and the manifests alone.
  • Nothing about a file is kept in your storage beyond those facts; what the photo shows, who is in it and what it says stay in your index.
03 · What the app never does there
  • It never writes outside the index's folder.
  • It removes a file there only when you asked for it: an item you delete in the app leaves your storage at the next run, together with its 720p copy, and Clear backend, which you confirm by typing the backend's name, removes the index's folder and nothing else. See Change, Forget and Clear.
  • A file deleted in another app, a gallery or a file manager, stays in your storage.
