Tap Me, open Settings, then Backup. Two choices live there, above the Storage backend button.
01 · Use mobile data
- Off, the way the app starts: sync, backup and restore run only on Wi-Fi, or any other connection your phone does not count as metered.
- On: they run on any connection, mobile data included. The app does not look at which network it is on any more.
- The switch is one for all three. There is no separate rule for the backup.
- Flipping it takes effect at once: a run waiting for Wi-Fi starts, a run on mobile data pauses at the next file and waits for Wi-Fi.
Whatever the switch says, nothing runs below 10% battery, and nothing ever waits for the charger.
02 · Backup quality
- Originals: the file goes up exactly as it is on the phone, byte for byte.
- 1080p: a copy with its long edge at 1920 px goes up instead, with the date, camera and place carried over. It takes a small fraction of the space of a 50-megapixel original.
- Videos and PDFs always go up as the original file; the choice is about photos.
- The choice is kept with the backend in your account, so a second phone uses the same one. Changing it applies to what is backed up from then on; what already went up is not sent again.
The two switches appear here only once a backend is set; before that the page shows only the mobile data switch and the Storage backend button.
