A photo your backup already holds does not have to sit on the phone at full size too. Move it, and the phone keeps a 720p copy while your storage keeps the original.
01 · Space saver, for all of them
- Open the Photo backup screen. Under Space saver it says how many photos sit on this phone at full size although your backup holds them, and about how much room moving them frees.
- Tap Free about …, read the confirmation and tap Move.
- The full files leave the phone. Their 720p copies stay, and the photos show the cloud mark.
When there is nothing to free, Space saver says so.
02 · Move, for the photos you pick
- Pick photos with a long press.
- When every picked photo is one your backup holds and the phone still has at full size, Move appears in the bar at the bottom.
- Tap it and confirm. The same happens as with Space saver, for those photos only.
03 · What it never does
- It never moves a photo your backup does not hold yet: the original is never the last copy.
- It never touches clips or PDFs. They have no smaller copy to fall back on.
- The photos stay searchable, with their tags, people and words.
- Download all originals brings the full files back whenever you want them.
