Similar photos on the web

Groups of alike photos on a slider from loosely to strictly, and a button that picks one of each group to clean up.

Similar photos, in the row above the grid, shows groups of photos that are alike, one group under each heading, with a slider that says how alike. Use it to find repeats and clear them out. The same button, now reading Back to all photos, leaves the view.

01 · The slider

Five stops, from loosely to strictly. The name of the stop is shown under the slider, and the groups change as soon as the slider settles.

0 · Same first 2 words, same camera

The first two things the photo was read as are the same, and the same camera took them.

1 · Same first 3 words, same camera

The first three the same, same camera. Very large groups are left out here, as they describe a theme rather than a repeat.

2 · Same description, same camera

The whole reading of the photo is the same, word for word, and so is the camera.

3 · Same photo (EXIF)

The same camera details: the same shot, even when one copy was lightly edited.

4 · Same file (exact copy)

The very same file. Only true copies group here.

Each heading says what the photos of its group share and how many there are. The groups answer inside what is on screen: what you typed and the filters you have on narrow them. Your own tags and wording never move a photo between groups. More about the stops on the phone's similar photos page; the phone has one more stop, Same faces, described in what stays on the phone.

02 · Cleaning up
  1. Press Select 1 of each group, under the slider. It ticks the last photo of every group and leaves the others, so each group keeps at least one.
  2. Look over the ticks and change any you like.
  3. Use the selection bar: Delete removes them everywhere, or share, download or tag them first.
03 · Photos like one photo
  • Similar photos in the viewer's actions opens the same slider for that photo alone: every stop shows what else is like it, the photo itself first.
  • What you had typed and the filters you had on are cleared when it opens.
  • Back to search, above the slider, leaves it. The Group button stays, to arrange those photos by date, place and the rest.
  • Select 1 of each group is not offered here, as there is only one group.
  • If nothing is like the photo at that stop, only the photo itself is shown; move the slider to a looser stop.
