Put your own words on your photos: tags, the people on them, and your wording of what a photo shows. They are saved on the phone at once and go up to your own Opensolr Index with the sync that starts right after. The photo files are never changed.
In the viewer, tap the photo, then Tags, people and words. The sheet, Edit <file name>, has three parts:
The names on the photo. Here a name can only be taken off; names go on by naming a face.
One tag per entry, added with Add or the keyboard's Done key, removed with the cross on its chip. Anything you would search for; each tag becomes an album of its own. Your tags weigh more than the words Opensolr read.
The words Opensolr read the photo into, as text you can change. Your wording is kept even when the photo is read again. Reset clears it: when you save, the photo is read again and Opensolr's own words come back.
While you type a tag, suggestions appear under the field: Your tags and From your photos, the tags you use most and the words your photos were read into. They are counted on the phone, so nothing is fetched while you type.
Select photos, then Tag N in the bar at the bottom. The sheet Tag N photos has:
- My tags (Albums) with an Add / Replace switch. Add puts your tags on top of what each photo already has. Replace makes them the only tags on every ticked photo, removing the ones they have now.
- Place, for photos with a wrong place or none: All ticked photos, or Only those without a place. See places.
- Already on these photos: the people and tags the ticked photos carry, with how many of them carry each. Counted on the phone.
People are not typed here either; they go on by naming a face.
- The change is written on the phone and is finished there: search and browsing use it straight away.
- A sync starts right after and carries the words up through
photos_words, fifty photos per call, with no picture attached. - On a plan with vector search, Opensolr makes the photo's search vector again from the people, what the photo shows, the place and your tags. That costs a tenth of an AI request per photo, and nothing when Opensolr still holds the same vector.
The same tag or name written two ways, with or without accents and capitals, is kept once. Tags written into a file by Lightroom, digiKam or another app are read and added; the app never writes into a photo file.
If the phone is offline or syncing is stopped, the change waits on the phone and goes up with the next sync. Nothing is lost.
