Browsing your photos

Every photo you indexed, newest first, under date headings, answered by the phone alone.

With nothing typed and no filter on, the grid shows every photo you indexed, newest first, under date headings. This is what you see when the app opens, and it costs nothing: the phone answers it alone.

01 · The date headings
  • The last few days stand on their own at the top: Today, Yesterday, then the weekday for each of the days before, up to six days back.
  • Everything older goes under its year, then its month, then its day: 2025, September, Saturday 5.
  • Photos are placed by the date they were taken, in the phone's time zone.

The grouping button above the grid can show the same photos by Place, People, My tags, Folder or Camera instead. See grouping results.

02 · Folding
  • Tap a heading to fold it away. A folded heading says how many photos it hides: September (1,480).
  • What you folded stays folded the next time you open the app.
  • Expand all or Collapse all, above the grid, opens or folds every heading on screen at once.
03 · The scroll bar

Drag the bar on the right edge to move through months at once. A badge next to your thumb shows the year and, under it, the month you are on. You feel a firm tap when you cross a year and a light one when you cross a month, unless haptic feedback is off.

04 · Why it costs nothing

The years, the months, the days, their counts and the photos in them all come from the phone's copy of the index. Browsing makes no request, uses none of your plan and works with the phone offline. The thumbnails are drawn from the photos on the phone; nothing is downloaded to show them.

05 · New photos and unreadable photos
  • A new photo shows in the grid as soon as a sync finds it, marked as still syncing, until Opensolr has indexed it. Opened full screen, it says Still syncing and its actions wait.
  • Photos your phone could not read are listed under the red mark above the grid, which appears only when there are some. Each one shows its file name and the reason: The file is empty, The picture cannot be decoded or The file cannot be opened. They never reach Opensolr, and they are not tried again until the file changes or you pick them for Re-sync.
