Search tuning

Two sliders that decide how a typed search ranks your photos.

Two sliders in Me › Settings › Search tuning decide how a typed search ranks your photos. The next search uses them.

01 · Semantic ↔ Lexical Balance

How much keyword matching counts against meaning, when the search uses both.

  • From 0, meaning only, to 1, words only, in steps of 0.05. The value is shown next to the slider.
  • It starts at 0.2: mostly meaning, with the words still counting. Reset brings it back.
  • On a plan without search by meaning, or once this month's AI requests are used up, the slider is greyed out and says why: search then matches words only.
02 · Lexical matching

How many of the words you type must be in a photo, in three steps:

Flexible

More of your words may be missing. Good for long, loose descriptions.

Balanced

The starting point: most of your words must match.

Strict

Nearly every word must match.

With one or two words, every step asks for all of them. The longer the search, the more the three steps differ. It works with the AI switch on or off, on the word side of the search.
