Syncs run on their own on a schedule you choose, whenever you ask for one, and never two at a time.
Right after the phone's index was created or found.

The app watches the phone's photo library. A minute after a photo is added, changed or deleted in any folder (at most five minutes when changes keep coming), a sync runs on its own, even when the app is closed. It needs a network connection.
Choosing photos in the grid and pressing Re-sync starts a sync that reads those photos again. See filters & photo details.
Every week or every month, your choice, as a safety net behind the change watcher. It waits for a network connection and a battery that is not low.
Every kind of sync is a unique background job managed by Android's WorkManager, and the sync itself refuses to start while another one is running. Pressing Force Re-Sync while a sync is running or waiting shows:
Your photos are being synced right now. Please be patient, it finishes on its own, and a new sync is not needed.
- The indicator. The sync icon at the top of the photo grid turns while a sync runs. Tapping it opens the Sync screen.
- The notification. A sync runs as a foreground job with a progress notification, so Android does not stop it half way.
- The Sync screen shows the current phase and a progress bar with N of M; after a run, the finish time (mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss), the result, the photos in your folders, how many were added, removed and skipped, and a note if the index had to be recreated.
On the Sync screen, under Automatic Re-Sync, choose Every week or Every month. The new schedule replaces the old one straight away; the first automatic run comes one period later.
