The Backup screen

Set the storage your photos live in, see what it holds, and change, forget or clear it.

Backup opens Photo backup: the storage your photos are kept in, called the backend. The web app shows its pictures from there, and your phones back up into it. Two kinds are offered: an S3 bucket or a WebDAV folder.

01 · Setting one up

With no backend yet, the screen says No backend yet and shows the form.

  1. Choose S3 bucket or WebDAV folder and give it a Name.
  2. For S3: Endpoint (blank for AWS, otherwise the address of Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, Wasabi, MinIO and the like), Region, Bucket, Access key, Secret key and, if you want, a Folder in the bucket. For WebDAV: the Folder URL, User and Password.
  3. Pick the Backup quality: Originals or 1080p.
  4. Press Test connection. It writes a file into the backend, reads it back and removes it; Connected means it worked.
  5. Press Save and start backup. It is offered only after a test that worked with exactly what is in the form; change a field and you test again.

Only you have the credentials. They are sealed in your Opensolr account, so every phone of the account finds the backend by itself. Step-by-step help for each kind: AWS S3, other S3 services, WebDAV.

02 · Once it is set
  • The kind and name, the Host, the Backup quality, and what the backend holds: Photos in the backend and Size in the backend.
  • Re-read the backend counts it again.
03 · Change, forget, clear
Change backend

Opens the form with the current values; a secret left blank keeps the saved one. After a test and a confirmation, the new backend starts empty and is filled from the files on your phones. The old one is left as it is, with every file in it.

Forget backend

After a confirmation, the account forgets the backend. Nothing in it is removed; photos your phones hold only as 720p copies stay there.

Clear backend

Removes every file the app wrote into the backend for this index, then forgets it. It cannot be undone, so you type the backend's name to confirm and press Remove everything. If the clearing does not finish, the backend stays set.

The same three are explained for the phone app on change, forget or clear.
