The library and its date headings

Your photos newest first, under headings for the last days, then year, month and day, each one folding and staying folded.

With nothing typed and no filter on, the Photos screen shows your whole library, newest first, under date headings. Pictures load as you scroll, one heading at a time.

01 · The headings
  • The last six days each get a heading of their own: Today, Yesterday, then the day's date.
  • Everything older sits under its year, then its month, then its day.
  • No date, at the very end, holds what has no date taken.

Days are counted in your browser's time zone, so a photo taken just before midnight stays on its own day.

02 · Folding
  • Click or tap a heading to fold it; again to open it. A folded heading shows how many items it holds, and folding a year or a month hides everything inside it.
  • What you fold is remembered in this browser, separately for each view: the library, each search, each set of filters and each grouping keep their own folds.
  • Collapse all, in the row above the grid, folds every heading on screen. When anything is folded the same button reads Expand all and opens them all.
  • With the keyboard, Enter or Space on a heading folds or opens it.
03 · The row above the grid
  • Filters, with how many are on. See filters.
  • How many items are shown.
  • Similar photos. See similar photos.
  • Group, with the current grouping. See group results by.
  • Reload asks your index again, for photos that arrived from a phone since.
  • Collapse all or Expand all.

At the end of the list the page says That is everything with the total.

04 · What the grid shows
  • A clip carries a play mark and its length.
  • A PDF is one picture for the whole file, marked with its number of pages, even though each page is searchable on its own.
  • Click a picture to open it in the viewer.
