Downloading a full file

Photos come back as 720p copies; Download brings one full file when you want it. Videos and PDFs come back whole.

A photo brought back from your storage is on the phone as a 720p copy. Download brings its full file into your photo folders, one photo at a time, only the ones you want, so the phone's space goes only where you choose.

01 · Download, one photo
  • In the viewer, Download is in the row of actions of a photo with the cloud mark; in the details it sits under Only in the backend.
  • The file comes from your storage into the folder it had on the old phone, under DCIM or Pictures. When the old folder was one Android does not let an app write into, it goes under Pictures, in a folder of the same name, and the app notes where. With All files access allowed (the GitHub version) it goes into exactly the folder it had.
  • It keeps the photo's place in the index: same people, tags, words and place; it is not read or counted again. The cloud mark goes, and the 720p copy is removed.
  • With 1080p as the backup quality, what comes back is the 1080p copy: that is what the storage holds.
02 · Videos and PDFs need no Download
  • A video or a PDF comes back to a new phone as its original file straight away: a clip plays, a PDF opens. A PDF comes back once, with all its pages.
  • A clip goes into its own folder under DCIM, Movies or Pictures, else into Movies; a PDF into its own folder under Download or Documents, else into Documents.

To bring every photo's full file at once, use Download all originals on the Photo backup screen; it checks the free space first. Downloads follow the same rules as everything else: only on Wi-Fi unless mobile data is allowed, never below 10% battery, never waiting for a charger.
