Choosing a place on the map

Give a photo a place, or move it: search a town, move the map under the pin, and use this place.

Click Place (or Add a place) in the Details panel, or Choose the place on the map when tagging many photos, and Where was it taken? opens: a map with a pin fixed in its middle.

01 · Picking the place
  1. Type a city or town in the search box and pick it from the list; the map jumps there. Or move the map yourself.
  2. Drag the map until the pin sits on the exact spot, or click the spot to bring it under the pin. The position shows under the map.
  3. Press Use this place.

A photo that already has a place opens the map on it. A photo without one opens on a wide view, and Use this place waits until you move the map.

02 · After saving
  • The new position is saved in your index, and the street, town, region and country are looked up for it there. The Details panel shows them as soon as they come back.
  • The photo then shows on the Map screen and under Group: Place.
  • The map is OpenStreetMap; no Google account is involved.
