PDF files, page by page

A PDF in the folders you sync is taken apart into pages, and every page is read like a photo: its printed text, what it shows, its date. So a figure on page 7 of a contract is found the way a number on a receipt is, and the result is that page, not the whole file.

• Each page, drawn into a picture on the phone and sent as a photo would be: read into words and printed text, given a search vector. The file itself never goes to Opensolr.
• With each page: which page it is, how many the file has, the file's name, folder, size and date.
• Each page costs what one photo costs. A long file is capped: Up to N pages per file on the Sync screen, 100 from the start, between 10 and 500.
• A file with a password, or a damaged file, is skipped and listed under the red mark above the grid with the reason.
• Android shows an app only the PDFs it made itself. To index the ones other apps saved, in Download or in WhatsApp, the Sync screen shows Allow All files access under the switch: it opens the system page where you allow it, and a sync starts when you come back. The app still reads only the PDFs in the folders you sync. This is in the version from GitHub; the Google Play version indexes the PDFs Android lets it see without that permission.

• A page shows as its picture with a small document sign and 3/12 at the top right: page 3 of 12.
• Pages of the same file that follow each other in the results are folded into one cell that says 12 pages, so a long file does not flood the grid. Tapping it opens the first of them; swiping walks through the rest.
• When you search, only the pages that match come back, so factura.pdf can answer with page 3 alone, or with pages 3, 4 and 9 folded into one cell.
• Selecting a folded cell selects all its pages.

• The page fills the screen, sharp, and zooms like a photo.
• Two arrows in the row of actions go to the previous and the next page of the same file, when those pages are in the results. A swipe does the same.
• Open PDF opens the whole file in your PDF reader.
• The details show PDF · page 3 of 12, the file's name and folder, then the page's printed text and words, its tags and your wording. The people and faces row is not there: pages are not photos of people.
• Share sends the whole file. Delete on a page asks Delete the whole PDF?: it deletes the file, and with it every page, on every phone and in your backup.
• The photo editor and wallpaper are not offered on a page.

• Sync, Also index, PDF files, on from the start, with the pages-per-file limit under it. Off, and the pages leave your index at the next sync; on again, and they come back.
• With a storage backend, the file goes up once, whole, however many pages are indexed; next to it, each page at 720 px. On a new phone the file comes back whole, once, and every page of it is there at once.
• Filter to pages only with the Type filter.

PDFs you make from selected photos or scanned pages are indexed like any other.
