The clips in the folders you sync are in your index too. Opensolr reads a clip the way it reads a photo, from its first frame and its facts, so a video is found by what it shows and by when and where it was taken. The clip itself never goes to Opensolr; it leaves the phone only for your own storage, when you set a backup.
- One picture: a frame one second in (half way through a very short clip), upright, as a small JPEG, read like a photo into words, a search vector and, when there is one, the printed text.
- The clip's facts: when it was taken, where, how long it is, its size, its folder and name.
- Not the clip. Not a second frame. A 20-minute 4K recording costs the index exactly what one photo costs. See plan limits.
- In the grid, a clip shows its first frame with a small play sign and its length at the top right, next to the other marks.
- In the viewer, the clip plays, with the usual controls; a tap shows them, together with the row of actions. Swipe sideways to the next result, up for its details, down to go back, as with a photo.
- The full-screen button of the controls, or turning the phone sideways, plays the clip on the whole screen with nothing over it. A wide clip turns the screen sideways by itself; leaving gives the turn back to the phone.
- A clip this phone cannot play shows its frame and Open in video player. See Live Photo clips for the short clips iPhones make.
- Its details show Video and its length beside the usual facts. People, tags, your wording and the place work as on a photo; the people are those seen in the first frame.
- Share sends the clip. Delete asks Delete 1 clip? and removes it everywhere. The photo editor and wallpaper are for photos and are not offered.
- Filter to clips only with the Type filter.
- Sync, Also index, Videos. It is on from the start.
- On Android 13 and newer, clips need their own permission next to the one for photos. The app asks for it once; if you said no, turning the switch on asks again.
- Turn it off and the clips leave your index at the next sync, as photos of a removed folder would; turn it on again and they come back, read again.
- With a storage backend, the clip goes up as the original file, always, whatever the backup quality says. Next to it goes its first frame at 720 px.
- On a new phone the clip comes back as the original file, into its folder, and plays at once.
- Without a backend, the clip stays on the phone and nowhere else, as before.
