Search Operators on Your Search Page

Phrases, required words and excluded words

Visitors can type a few signs in the search box to say exactly what they want. They work on your search page out of the box, with AI search on or off.

The signs

  • "solar panel": quotes keep the words together as a phrase for the keyword part of the search. To make the phrase a must, put a plus sign in front of it.
  • +solar: the result must contain the word.
  • -used: the result must not contain the word.
  • +"solar panel" and -"open box": the same, for a whole phrase.

Example: +laptop +"13 inch" -refurbished returns only 13 inch laptops, and never a refurbished one.

Good to know

  • A word with a plus or minus sign works as a filter on the whole result list, so an excluded word stays excluded even when AI search finds pages by meaning.
  • The signs count only at the start of a word: e-mail, covid-19 and 1+1 are searched as they are.
  • A search made only of excluded words, such as -used, runs as a keyword search.
