Use an Existing Opensolr Index

Attach the plugin to an index you already have

Instead of letting the plugin create an index, you can connect your site to an Opensolr Index you already have. Nothing is created and nothing is deleted: the plugin only saves which index to use.

Steps

  1. Open Settings > Opensolr Search, tab Settings. If the site is already connected, click Reconfigure Opensolr Index and Credentials first.
  2. Enter your Email and API Key.
  3. Under Use an existing index, click the box Click to load and search your indexes… and type a few letters to filter the list.
  4. Pick your index, then click Use this index.
  5. When the window says Connected!, click Continue.

Good to know

  • Only indexes of the account that owns the API key can be picked.
  • Each index in the list is marked AI or lexical. When you pick a lexical one, a note says that vector, semantic and AI features will not be available on it.
  • The plugin also adds your sitemap to the crawl list of that index, when your site address starts with https://. See The plugin sitemap.
  • Several sites can share one index. The search page of each site shows only the pages of its own domain.
  • The plugin uses the index as it is. It does not upload a configuration and does not switch Query Elevation on, so pick an index that is already set up for site search. What such an index needs: What your index needs.
