Every document in it is gone. Your search page shows no results until you crawl or ingest your content again.
Save & Start Fresh gives your site a brand new, empty Opensolr Index with the current site search configuration, and deletes the index the site used before. It is on the Settings tab, under Save & Connect, and shows only when the site already has an index (click Reconfigure Opensolr Index and Credentials to see it).
What happens, in order
- WordPress asks you to confirm: "This will DELETE your current search index and create a new one."
- Opensolr creates the new index, with a name like
wp_1a2b3c4d__dense, in the region of an index you already have. - Only once the new index exists, the old one is deleted. If the creation fails, nothing changes.
- The site search configuration is uploaded, the index is reloaded and Query Elevation is switched on.
- Your sitemap is added to the crawl list of the new index (sites whose address starts with
https://).
Your plan needs room for one more index
Because the new index is created before the old one is deleted, your plan must allow one more index at that moment. When it does not, the window says "Your current plan allows N search index(es). Upgrade your plan to create more." and your current index stays as it is. Plans: https://opensolr.com/pricing.
What stays
- Everything the plugin keeps in WordPress: your settings, the search log of the Analytics tab and your pin and exclude rules.
- Your WordPress content, of course. Start a crawl with Reindex Everything on the Data Crawler tab, or click Ingest All Now on Data Ingestion.
Only want to read your site again?
You do not need a new index for that. Reindex From Scratch crawls your whole site again and keeps the index: Reindex From Scratch or Reset Index.
