How your mail reads: notifications, pictures from the web, the text size and how much of each message the lists show. All in Settings → Preferences → Reading.
01 · The settings
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Notify me of new mail | New-mail notifications. See Notifications. | On |
| Always show images | Pictures fetched from the web show in every message. | Off |
| Text size | The size of the text you read and write, from 80% to 200% of the standard size, in steps of 10%, with a sample under the slider. | 100% |
| Lines of the message in the list | How many lines of each message show under its subject in the mail lists: 1 to 4. | 2 |
02 · Pictures from the web, one sender at a time
With Always show images off, a message with pictures from the web shows them only when you ask, with two buttons above it:
- Show images: for this message only.
- Always show images: for every message from this sender, now and later. The same button then reads Stop showing images, to undo it.
Pictures that come inside the message itself always show; only pictures fetched from the web wait for you. Scripts in a message never run.
