With an Opensolr account connected, your mail is searched in an Opensolr Index that belongs to you.
The app works fully without an Opensolr account. This page only matters if you chose to connect one; if you never do, nothing here applies to you.
Your mail stays in Fastmail. Your own Opensolr Index holds what search needs: the text of each message and of its attachments.
- The first phone creates a mail index in your account and finds it again after a reinstall. A new phone signed in to the same Opensolr account is shown the mail indexes already there, with how many messages each holds and when it was last indexed, and asks whether to re-use one or start a new index. A re-used index is not read or embedded again: only what it does not have yet is added.
- It holds the subject, the people, the folders and the text of each message, and the text read out of attachments. A message that reached two of your accounts is indexed once.
- It is filled in the background, newest mail first, until your whole history is in. New, moved and deleted messages follow at once.
- You can see it, back it up or delete it from the Opensolr control panel. Manage this index in your Opensolr account, in Settings → Opensolr Account, opens it in the Opensolr app, offers the app if it is not installed, or opens it on opensolr.com.
What the indexer is doing: its State, Searchable messages, how many are With meaning, two progress bars, Messages indexed and Attachments read, whether the Mail history is all in, the Last run and the name of the index. Under them, one row of tools:

| Reset | Empties the whole Opensolr Index and leaves indexing stopped until Index now. |
The index is shared by every phone that uses it: Clean and Reset delete every document in it, not only this phone’s. Repair, Reindex, Clean and Reset each ask first, in a dialog that says what they do.
