The index and sync

Your notes live in an Opensolr Index of your own, one per phone, and on the phone itself.

Your notes live in two places: on the phone, and in an Opensolr Index that belongs to your account.

01 · One index per phone

At the first sign-in the app creates an index named notes_<install id>__dense, an index with vector embeddings on the same schema Opensolr uses for site search, so the search page and the chat work on it like on any other. Its name is in Settings → Account, and it is listed with your other indexes in the control panel.

A second phone of the same account can share that index, so both phones see the same notes, or start its own. The app asks at sign-in. See Signing in.

02 · Sync
  • Phone first. A note is saved on the phone the moment you save it, then sent to the index. Until it is there, the list says not synced yet under it.
  • Pull down the list, or Sync now in Settings, to send what is waiting and fetch the notes written on another phone that shares the index.
  • A deleted note leaves the index at once.
  • The order you drag notes into stays on the phone; it is not synced.
03 · On opensolr.com

When your account has a notes index, the admin menu on opensolr.com shows Notes → Browse Notes, which opens the search page. The index itself is managed like any other: its password and security under Index password and security in the app’s Settings, its disk space and bandwidth counted against your plan.
