PHP Configuration and Presets

PHP settings for every site, in one click or by hand

Set PHP for your sites

The PHP Configuration card shows the PHP settings every site on the server runs with. Change them in one click with a preset, or edit the files yourself.

Where: Servers › My Servers › your server › Services › PHP Configuration

01 · What the card shows

  • PHP Version, Memory Limit, Max Execution, Upload Max, Post Max Size and whether OPcache is enabled.
  • FPM Pool Settings: Process Manager, Max Children, Start Servers, Min Spare, Max Spare and Max Requests.

02 · Presets

Two files have presets: php.ini Configuration (PHP itself) and PHP-FPM Pool Configuration (www.conf) (the PHP workers). Each has Apply Production Settings, Apply Development Settings, Edit Manually and View Preset Details.

FileProductionDevelopment
php.iniErrors hidden, memory_limit 1024M, uploads and posts up to 128M, 300 s per script, OPcache rechecks files every 60 s.Errors shown, memory_limit 2048M, uploads and posts up to 256M, 600 s per script, OPcache rechecks files at once.
www.confpm = dynamic, 50 workers at most, 10 at start, each worker replaced after 500 requests, slow requests logged after 5 s, open_basedir on.pm = ondemand, 20 workers at most, each replaced after 100 requests, slow requests logged after 3 s, worker output logged, open_basedir off.
A preset replaces the whole file. Lines you added by hand are not kept. Open View Preset Details to read the full list before you apply.

03 · Edit the files yourself

  1. Click Edit Manually on php.ini or on www.conf. The dialog shows the file's path.
  2. Change what you need.
  3. Click Save & Apply.

Every save, preset or manual, keeps a copy of the old file, has PHP-FPM check the new one, then reloads PHP-FPM. A file that fails the check is put back and the error is shown. The same php.ini is also under System › Config.

04 · Good to know

  • post_max_size and upload_max_filesize also set the largest SQL file you can import.
  • Both www.conf presets turn on PHP-FPM's status page, which feeds PHP-FPM Status on the Monitor tab. Without a preset, use Enable FPM Status there.
  • One busy site should not slow the others? Give it a dedicated PHP pool.
