Server Config: Apache, php.ini and Cron

Settings that apply to the whole server

Server-wide configuration

System › Config holds the settings that apply to the whole server: Apache's main file, PHP's main file, which sites Apache serves, its modules, and your own scheduled tasks.

01 · The cards

Apache Global Settings

Load shows /etc/apache2/apache2.conf. Edit it and click Save & Reload Apache. Virtual hosts are not here: each project has its own (Edit VHost on the project).

PHP Configuration (php.ini)

Load shows the main PHP settings. Edit and click Save & Reload PHP-FPM. Presets and pool settings are on the Services tab.

Apache Sites (VHosts)

Every site Apache knows, Enabled or Disabled. Enable or Disable one; Apache reloads.

Apache Modules

The modules Apache has loaded, read-only.

Scheduled Tasks (Cron Jobs)

Your own cron jobs, in /etc/cron.d/opensolr-agent.

02 · Saving Apache and PHP

Before a change goes live, the old file is kept as a copy and the new one is checked: by Apache for apache2.conf, by PHP-FPM for php.ini. A file that fails the check is put back as it was and the error is shown, so a typo never takes your sites down.

03 · Your cron jobs

  1. Click Load on Scheduled Tasks (Cron Jobs).
  2. Add one line per job, in the format minute hour day month weekday user command.
  3. Click Save Cron Jobs. Delete All Jobs removes the whole file.
Cron lines are saved as you type them, with no check: test a command in the Terminal first. The daily backups and the monthly housekeeping run on their own schedule and are not in this file.
