Number pads

Fields that take only numbers, a PIN, a phone number or a date get a pad made for them, with big keys and only the characters the field accepts.

When a field takes only a number, a PIN, a phone number or a date, the keyboard opens a pad made for it: big keys in columns across the whole width, with only the characters that field accepts.

01 · Which pad, for which field
The field asks forThe pad
A PIN or a plain number1 to 9 in three rows, then delete, 0 and return. Numeric passwords get this pad too.
A number with a sign or decimals1 to 9 with - and + down the right and delete under them, then . 0 , and return.
A phone number1 to 9 with - and + down the right and delete under them, then * 0 # and return.
A date or a time1 to 9 with / and : down the right and delete under them, then - 0 . and return.

Any other field opens the letters keyboard with its number row, as described in The keys.

02 · What the pads leave out
  • No long press. Holding a key on a pad types it once, so a slow tap never opens a row of alternatives.
  • No autocorrect. Numbers, PINs, phone numbers and dates are never corrected.

Delete repeats while you hold it, as on the letters keyboard. The emoji and hide buttons stay under the pad.
