Installing the keyboard

Download the signed APK from GitHub and install it. Android 8.0 or newer.

The keyboard is distributed as a signed APK on GitHub. Installing it takes about a minute.

  1. Download the APK on your phone: opensolr-keys.apk, the latest release.
  2. Allow the install. Android asks once whether your browser may install apps. Allow it for this install.
  3. Open Opensolr Keys and follow Enabling and choosing it: the two buttons at the top of the app take you to the right places in Android.
01 · What it needs
  • Android 8.0 or newer.
  • One permission: vibration, for the optional tap feedback. It asks for nothing else, and it has no internet permission at all.
  • No account, Opensolr or other. Nothing to sign in to.
02 · Uninstalling

Uninstalling removes the keyboard. Your settings and the words you kept as typed are part of your phone’s app backup, so a later install on the same Google account gets them back. See Updates for how a newer version is installed.
