Opensolr Photos 2.9.0: Find the Place by Name on the Map

Moving a photo to the right place used to mean dragging the map until you found it. In 2.9.0 you type the name of the town.

01 Type the name, the map goes there

The map now has a search box. Write two letters of a city or town and the places that begin with it come back, biggest first, with their county and country, in any language the place is known by and with or without diacritics: zala finds Zalău. Tap one and the map flies there; the name stays written in the box so you can see where you are. Nothing is saved until you press Use this place.

• Towns and regions. The search knows cities, towns, villages, counties and countries — not streets or points of interest.
• Held on your phone. Answers are kept in the same cache as everything else, for the number of seconds you set in Me, so the same name never costs a second request.

02 The map opens where the photo is

A photo that already has a place opens on that place, because moving it is a correction, not a fresh start. A photo with no place at all opens where your phone is, close enough to recognise the streets, instead of on the middle of the world.

03 The buttons stay on the screen

On phones whose navigation bar sits at the bottom of the screen, Cancel and Use this place could fall underneath it. The map picker now covers the whole screen itself, so both buttons are always where you can press them.
