Opensolr Photos 2.8.0: Seven Languages, Places You Can Move, Results by Place, People or Date
Opensolr Photos 2.8.0 is about the places your photos were taken, and about finding them the way you think of them: by where, when, who or what you named them, in your own language.
01 In seven languages
Every screen, message and notification is now in English, German, French, Spanish, Romanian, Japanese and Chinese. The app follows your phone’s language; to use another one, pick it in Me, Settings, Language. On Android 13 and later it is the same choice as the app language in your phone’s settings.
02 Put a photo in the right place
In a photo’s details the place is now a button, written as the place, its region and its country, such as Fântâni, Galați, Romania. Tap it, move the map until the pin sits on the spot, and the new position goes into the photo file itself and into your index, where the place name follows.
- Many photos at once. Tick them, open Tag, and choose a place on the map for all of them, or only for those that have none yet.
- Android asks once. Writing into photo files needs your permission, and one question covers every photo of the batch.
- No second reading. Only the position travels to your index; the photo is not read again.
03 Places for cameras without GPS
Turn on Place new photos in Me, Settings, Places. A new photo that arrives without a position, copied from a camera or a card, gets the place of the photo your phone took closest to it in time, within 30 minutes. It works whenever you copy the photos over, the same evening or a week later.
- The phone’s own position, for fresh photos. With no phone photo close in time, a photo taken in the last 2 hours gets the position of the phone when it arrives.
- Nothing already placed is touched. Photos that have a position, and every photo that was on the phone before you turned this on, stay as they are.
04 Group your results
A new button next to the AI switch lays the results out by best match, by date, by place, by people or by your tags. Places come as country, then region, then the place itself, each with how many photos it holds. It works while browsing, when you search, and on Similar photos, and it stays as you left it.
05 Folders and duplicates
- Filter by folder. The folders you chose in Sync, such as DCIM or Pictures, are a filter of their own, right after Country.
- Duplicates by any words in common. The duplicates slider now starts at any 2, 3 or 4 words the same, then all 5, then the same photo by its EXIF, the same file name, size and exact copy. Groups that share a photo are joined, so Select 1 of each never marks a photo twice.
- Me in zones. App updates, Account info, Account stats, Settings and Advanced, each folded until you open it.
- Easier to read. The buttons stand out on the light theme, the text is a little heavier, and the tag editors fill the screen without closing when you pull down.
Photos already in your index get the new duplicate stops after a Re-read, in Sync. Install 2.8.0 over any earlier version; your index and your edits stay as they are.
