Facets: Filters in the Search Sidebar

Filters built from the fields of your index

Facets are the filters in the sidebar of your search page: categories, prices, dates, brands. Each one is built from a field of your Opensolr Index. You set them up on the Facet Mapping tab, in two parts.

The two parts of the tab

  • Field Mappings: send your own page fields, such as the author, the keywords or the last update, to your index.
  • Facet Configuration: choose which fields of the index become filters, how they look and in which order.

Many fields are already there without any mapping, such as the publication date, the detected language and the category levels: Hierarchical category filters.

The five widgets

  • List: values with their counts.
  • Min/Max slider: a range, for prices and other numbers.
  • Duration slider (h:mm:ss): a range of lengths in seconds, such as the duration of a video.
  • Date range picker: from and to dates.
  • Hierarchical (drill-down): a category tree, one level at a time.

What visitors see

  • The enabled filters in the sidebar, in the order you set. On phones, behind a Filters button.
  • A Filter... box above lists of more than 10 values, and Show more to open the full list in a window.
  • Choosing a value keeps the other values of the same filter visible with their counts, so visitors can switch.
  • The chosen filters above the results, each removable with its ×, and Clear all when there are several.
