Demo data

Made-up traffic in every view, switched on only by you, with a banner on every page.

Demo mode fills the panel with made-up traffic, so you can look at every view before you have a real installation, or show the panel to somebody without showing your visitors. It is only ever switched on by you, and every page carries a banner saying the numbers are fabricated.

An unreachable Solr never turns into fake data

If your indexes cannot be reached, the cards that failed show the error and an empty state. Demo data appears only when demo mode is switched on.

01 · Switching it on
  • Set 'demo' => true in the ui section of the configuration, or start PHP with the environment variable LOGHOUND_DEMO=1.
  • While demo mode is on, Start over is switched off, so a fabricated panel can never act on a real Opensolr account.
02 · Trying the panel on your own computer

From a copy of the Loghound repository, without Solr:

php tools/panel-preview.php
php -S 127.0.0.1:8099 -t public
  1. The first command writes a throwaway configuration with demo data and a browser password prompt, and prints the username and a password.
  2. The second serves the panel at http://127.0.0.1:8099/.
  3. The preview script refuses to overwrite an existing configuration, because the real one holds your API key and the beacon signing key.

The made-up traffic deliberately contains a rotating proxy fleet, headless browsers on rented servers, declared crawlers including AI ones, scripted clients, and people whose four time numbers differ the way real ones do. The panel never skips sign-in, not even in demo mode.
