Opensolr Photos 1.8 to 1.12: Albums, Duplicates, Bulk Tagging and the Text in Your Photos

Opensolr Photos, the free and open-source Android app that makes the photos on your phone searchable by what they show, keeping the photos on your phone and their descriptions in an Opensolr Index of your own. Versions 1.8 to 1.12 gave it what a large library needs.

01 Albums and duplicates

• Albums — your photos grouped by your own tags, by year, by place, by the things they show and by camera, each with a stacked cover of its newest photos. Tap one and the photos are filtered to it.
• Duplicates — a slider picks how duplicates are found: by the words a photo was read into, by its camera details even after an edit, by file name, and at the last stop by the same file, byte for byte. One tap selects one photo of every group for you to review.
• Photos like this one — press and hold a photo, pick Similar, and the same slider is anchored to that photo.

02 Tagging

• The tag field suggests your own tags and the words your photos were read into, as you type.
• Tag in the selection bar tags every ticked photo, or every photo of the view you are on, in one go. It costs one AI request per fifty photos.
• Tagged photos carry a small tag in the corner, and a Tagged / Not tagged filter shows one or the other.

03 The text printed in your photos

Receipts, invoices, shelf labels, screenshots, business cards: the text printed in them is read and searched like anything else. Type the total, the receipt number or the company name and the photo comes up. Only photos that actually carry text are read, at no extra cost per photo.

04 Getting around

• Folders are browsed one level at a time, with the number of photos in each and everything below it.
• Every group heading folds away and remembers it; deleting photos no longer moves you in the list.
