Set Up the Site Assistant

Two modules and one button

Set Up the Assistant

Two modules to enable and one button. The chat bot then sits at the bottom right of every page of your site.

Before you start

  • Your content is in your Opensolr Index, sent with Data Ingestion or the Data Crawler. The assistant answers from what an anonymous visitor may see, and only that.
  • Drupal 10.5 or newer, 11 or 12, for the Opensolr AI Search part of the module.
  • A plan with AI: the answers use the AI requests of your Opensolr plan. See What it costs.

Steps

  1. Enable Opensolr AI Search. Run composer require drupal/ai, then enable Opensolr AI Search, which comes with Opensolr Search: drush en opensolr_search_ai.
  2. Enable AI Chatbot, a part of the Drupal AI module: drush en ai_chatbot.
  3. Open the Assistant tab: Configuration › Search and metadata › Opensolr Search › Assistant. A table shows your Opensolr Index, the chat model, any missing module and the twelve Opensolr tools.
  4. Leave Visitors can chat (anonymous and signed-in users) ticked, and click Set up the assistant.

What the button does

  • Places the Ask this site chat block at the bottom right of your front-end theme, with its first message and look, which you can change in the block settings.
  • Lets links to your own site, and to Google Maps for places, through the AI module's link filter. Links to any other site are removed from answers.
  • Gives anonymous and signed-in visitors the right to chat, when the box is ticked.

Later changes use the same button, then called Update the assistant; your own changes to the block stay.

Signed-in users only?

Untick Visitors can chat and give the access deepchat api permission to the roles you choose.
