Setup Opensolr with Omeka Solr
Omeka S searches an Opensolr Index through the module Advanced Search adapter for Solr (SearchSolr, by Daniel-KM). It talks to Solr over HTTP through the Solarium library, so your web server needs no PHP Solr extension.
01 · Modules
Install, in this order: Common, Advanced Search and Advanced Search adapter for Solr. Use the release zips: they include the libraries. For Omeka Classic there is the separate SolrSearch plugin; this page covers Omeka S.
02 · Prepare the index
The module writes its own fields to the index through the Solr Schema API and expects the managed schema of the _default configuration that comes with Solr. Zip the conf folder of _default from the Solr release that matches the version of your index, and upload it: Configuration › Upload Config Zip › Upload File. The index reloads by itself: Upload a ZIP.
03 · Connect
In the Omeka S admin, open Search manager › Solr and edit the default engine, or click Add Solr core:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Scheme | https |
| IP or hostname | The Host on the Info tab of your index |
| Port | 443 |
| Solr core | The name of your index |
| Config set | Leave empty: the index already exists |
| Is secure | Ticked |
| Solr user, Solr password | The username and password of your index (a new index: opensolr and your master API key) |
Save. The status of the engine should read OK.
04 · Finish
Turn off the data-driven schema
On the core page: Maintenance › Disable data-driven schema. The module manages its fields itself.
Create the catch-all field
Maintenance › Create _text_. Without it, full-text search returns nothing.
Align the maps and reindex
Maintenance › Align the maps, then reindex the engine with the two-arrows button in the search manager.
Add a search page
Give it a name, a path such as search, the Solr engine and the form Main, then enable it in the main settings and in the site settings.
