Solr Migration Option 3 - Convert the Configuration Yourself

Migrations

For teams with custom field types, handlers and analyzer chains who want to carry every tweak across themselves.

If you have heavily-customised schema.xml / solrconfig.xml and want to preserve every tweak yourself, here is the procedure. Every step below is mechanical — the conversion tables in the schema.xml and solrconfig.xml tables do the heavy lifting.

  1. Save the current configuration files with the commands in the checklist.
  2. Convert schema.xml using the table in the schema.xml table. Bump <schema> version to 1.7. Add _version_ if missing.
  3. Convert solrconfig.xml using the table in the solrconfig.xml table. Bump <luceneMatchVersion> to your target Solr version.
  4. Create a new Opensolr Index and upload the converted files as one ZIP in its Configuration tab (upload a ZIP). If the index cannot load them, the upload shows the error: fix the file and upload again.
  5. Reindex from source-of-truth (how to reindex).
  6. Validate & cut over (validation and cutover).
