Opensolr App 5.7: A New Package Name, Ready for Google Play

· Opensolr App · Improvement · All updates

Opensolr app 5.7 changes its package name to com.opensolr.main, the name it will carry on Google Play. Android treats a new package name as a new app, so this version does not update an older copy in place: it installs next to it.

01 If you had the app installed

  • Install the new one. Download it from the app page. An older copy, when it looks for its update, downloads the same file, and Android installs it as a second app.
  • Sign in once. The new app starts signed out: sign in through your browser as the first time, and your indexes, thresholds and alerts are back, because they live in your account, not on the phone.
  • Remove the old one. The older copy keeps working but will not update again. Uninstall it, so alerts arrive once, not twice.

02 Also in this release

  • Account-wide thresholds, said plainly. The thresholds set from the Account screen now say Set for every index on the account, so it is clear they apply to every index, not only the one you came from.
  • Settings and Account fold (5.7.3). Every section of the Settings and Account screens folds on a tap, and which ones are open is remembered, so each screen opens on the parts you use.
  • Smaller and faster. The release build is minified and stripped of resources it does not use, so the download is smaller and the app starts faster.
