Payment Profile VAT Upgrades: Real-Time Validation, Auto-Normalisation, Stripe Sync
VAT numbers are easy to get almost right and hard to notice when they are wrong. The Payment Profile now checks yours as you type, tidies the formatting before it reaches Stripe, and reconciles what we hold with what Stripe already has.
01 Validation while you type
A status appears next to the VAT field as you enter it, rather than after you save. It tells you which of four cases you are in: verified, invalid, Romania, or non-EU. You find out about a typo at the moment you make it.
02 Formatting is normalised for you
People write VAT numbers in all sorts of shapes, and the two most common variations used to be rejected downstream. Both are now normalised before the number reaches Stripe.
| What you enter | What happens |
|---|---|
spaces, dots, dashes | Formatting characters are stripped out. |
DE prefix + DEXXXXXX | The doubled country prefix is collapsed to one. |
03 Stripe tax IDs are reconciled
Tax IDs that already existed on your Stripe customer but were never recorded on our side are now detected automatically and synced on your next save. That removes the class of silent divergence where your account and Stripe disagreed about your VAT number and nothing surfaced it.
