Who this page is for
Teams evaluating Opensolr as the search platform for production websites and applications: agencies, enterprises, public institutions, and multilateral organizations that need clear pricing, defined service levels, and a low-risk way to validate their architecture before committing budget.
1. Start with the evaluation trial
Registration is free at opensolr.com/register and no credit card is required. If your evaluation needs more room or more time, write to support@opensolr.com with your account email and we will provision an extended evaluation trial with generous allowances, so your team can build and validate the complete architecture end to end. Production decisions should be based on evidence from real usage, not estimates. The trial exists precisely for that.
2. Transparent pricing, assembled from public units
Everything is priced monthly, from the same resource units that drive the pricing calculator:
- Opensolr Index: EUR 10 per index, per month
- Disk space: EUR 1 per 0.1 GB, per month
- Search traffic: EUR 0.50 per GB, per month
Volume discounts apply automatically and marginally: units above 10 indexes, above 10 GB of disk, or above 100 GB of monthly traffic are billed at 25% off.
3. AI usage pricing
AI usage is a monthly allowance that resets each calendar month, and unused requests do not roll over. Counting rules: one /api/embed call = 1 request; one /api/ai_summary call = 1 request; /api/batch_embed counts the number of documents in the batch.
| Monthly AI allowance | Price / month | Infrastructure |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 requests | EUR 50 | Shared AI infrastructure |
| 10,000 requests | EUR 90 | Shared AI infrastructure |
| 25,000 requests | EUR 200 | Shared AI infrastructure |
| 100,000 requests | EUR 700 | Shared AI infrastructure |
| 1,000,000 requests | EUR 2,500 | Dedicated GPU environment - reserved inference hardware with its own rate limits |
Above 100,000 requests per month, AI moves to dedicated capacity: a dedicated GPU environment reserved exclusively for your account, running your own inference hardware with its own rate limits, covering up to 1,000,000 requests per month. On the shared tiers, standard rate limits of 120 requests/minute and 1,200 requests/hour per account apply.
4. Commitment discounts
15% off with annual prepayment, the same yearly discount published on our pricing page, or 5% off with quarterly prepayment on custom packages. These apply to the full monthly total, dedicated AI capacity included.
5. Shared cloud vs dedicated clusters
The shared cloud is where evaluations and most production workloads run, and it is where we recommend starting. When production traffic warrants it, the step up is a Resilient Dedicated Cluster: dedicated instances arranged as a load balancer, a write-only master, and read-only replicas, with a custom SLA, starting from EUR 550 per month on entry-size instances, with resources and AI billed on top at the same unit rates listed above. Sizing a cluster is driven mostly by traffic: your real usage during the trial tells us whether it should be small or larger and how many replica servers it needs, so it is neither under-sized nor over-sized. Full architecture: Enterprise Solr Cloud. Moving from shared to dedicated requires no re-architecture on your side.
6. Service levels, stated plainly
The shared platform is provided on a best-effort basis, per our Terms of Service: there is no formal uptime SLA on shared plans, and the included support covers the platform itself (account, connectivity, billing, general guidance), with critical issues answered within 24 hours on a 24/7 basis and non-critical requests within 3 business days. Solr-specific engineering, such as schema work, query tuning, and custom configuration, is available separately as paid consultancy. Formal uptime guarantees (99.9%), custom SLAs, and guaranteed response times belong to the dedicated-cluster tier.
7. Vendor reviews and security documentation
Our security posture, infrastructure practices, and compliance information are documented in the Security and Trust Center. Security questionnaires and vendor accreditation documentation are completed as part of a production agreement.
8. How we work during an evaluation
We are glad to schedule a short introductory call of 30 to 45 minutes, kept at the architecture level: your topics, the recommended path through the trial, and next steps. For technical depth, written documentation is the better medium: every detail is documented, kept current, and available to your whole team at its own pace in our knowledge base.
9. AI and vector search regions
Semantic and hybrid search run in vector-enabled environments, currently available in Germany, Finland, and Chicago (US). Create your indexes in one of these regions if you plan to use vector or hybrid search; if your deployment requires a different region, contact us to discuss enabling it. Details: Hybrid Search documentation.
